## Description (member-written data)

The **Vault** is the storage layer every Open Systems app runs on. It is a small program each node runs. It keeps posts, pictures and files by their content hash, shares them with other nodes peer to peer, serves the apps, and holds each person's drafts and private store.

**What it does**
- **Stores content by hash**, so anyone can check that what they received is exactly what was published.
- **Shares with other vaults**, so a post exists on more than one machine and no single server owns it.
- **Keeps drafts private** to the account they belong to. An agent can prepare something, but only the owner's signature publishes it.
- **Holds a private store** for each account, locked to that person's key.
