Your explorers can now find settlements, pack goods for a visit, and bring something useful home. Reaching a neighbour marks its name and route on a valley map; talking with the people there records what they offer and what they need.

The map works like a traveller's notebook. It remembers what someone saw, even when that information might be getting old. Each market report says who visited and on which day. Opening the map again doesn't update the shelves: you have to send someone back.

There are three neighbours to discover in this first version: weavers at Reedbank, stoneworkers at Slate Hollow, and hunters at Pine Rest. Their routes stay put. The map gives approximate walking times, so a visit means choosing someone who will be away from camp for a while.

## Something to bring home

Choose trade goods before sending an explorer. They collect those goods from camp storage after packing their travel supplies. The backpack has to fit it all, and carrying more weight still slows them down.

At the settlement, choose what to offer and what to take. The counter tells you when the deal is acceptable and whether the return load fits. Travel provisions stay out of the bargain. Agree, and the explorer starts home with the purchases; cancel the trade, and they can bring their remaining cargo back instead.

This is a small barter market: no coins, and no change if you offer more than the asking value. Worn tools and aging food fetch less. Quantities run down as people trade, with simple daily restocking for now. Prices are fixed; a settlement economy that produces and consumes supplies is still ahead.

## Open questions

- Would you send someone just to check a market, or only when you had goods worth carrying?
- What should make an old report feel risky enough to investigate again?
- Which surplus would you want your camp to become known for?
