A spear is the first real weapon most camps make, and now there's more than one. A sharpened wooden pole will do in a pinch. Lash on a stone head and it hits much harder and lasts longer. A bone head hits harder still, but it breaks sooner. Each one wears down with use.

## Two ways to use one

Pick a colonist carrying a spear and choose **Melee** or **Throw**. Melee keeps them close, which is safer against something small and dangerous for anything big. Throw lets them strike from a distance. How far and how accurately depends on their aim, how quick they are and how strong they are, and on whether the target is moving.

A thrown spear is gone from their hands until they fetch it. It lands where it lands, and the colonist has to walk over and pick it up before they can throw again. It's the same spear, too: it keeps its wear, and nothing new appears. If something dangerous is close to where it landed, they'll wait rather than walk into trouble.

Misses are part of the deal. Every throw you miss is a walk into the open and another chance for your dinner to run away.

## Open questions

- Should a missed throw sometimes break the spear, or is the walk to fetch it cost enough?
