Nights in Farcamp used to be quiet in the wrong way. Now they sound like nights.

**Out in the dark.** As dusk falls, crickets start up, and they fade away again at dawn. They go quieter when it's cold or raining, and now and then an owl calls from somewhere off in the trees. The wind and rain you already hear from the weather carry on over the top.

**By the fire.** A burning fire gives off a soft, comfortable crackle, louder the closer the camera is. Several fires don't pile up into a roar, and a fire that runs out of fuel goes quiet.

**Asleep.** Colonists sleeping nearby breathe slowly and snore a little, each at their own pace and pitch, and every so often one lets out a faint whistle.

Like everything else in Farcamp, none of this comes from recordings: the crickets, the owl, the fire and the snoring are all made by the game's code. If you'd rather have a quieter night, the night sounds, the campfire and the sleeping sounds each have their own slider under Menu → Sound.

## Open questions

- What should a night sound like in winter, when the insects are gone?
- Should different places sound different: frogs by the lakes, more birds in the woods?
